Exploration of Gas Potential in the Montenegrin Part of the Adriatic to Continue

Representatives of TurkCham a group of companies from various economic sectors, introduced Minister Šahmanović to their businesses and investment interests, emphasizing that there is significant potential for strengthening economic ties between Montenegrin and Turkish entrepreneurs.

Minister of Mining, Oil, and Gas, Admir Šahmanović, announced the continuation of gas potential exploration in the Montenegrin part of the Adriatic, as well as the further implementation of the Adriatic-Ionian gas pipeline project.

“These projects can not only contribute to energy stability but also significantly strengthen Montenegro’s geopolitical position in the region, within the EU, and beyond. We have ambitious plans, and for their realization, we seek reliable and reputable partners,” said Šahmanović.

At the invitation of Turkey’s Ambassador to Montenegro, Bariş Kalkavan, and the President of the Turkish Chamber of Commerce (TurkCham), Burhan Genç, Šahmanović met with members of the organization and representatives of renowned Turkish companies operating in Montenegro.

Šahmanović presented the ministry’s development plans and initiatives for the upcoming period, highlighting potential projects attractive for investments. Particular emphasis was placed on ongoing projects, including the reconstruction of oil storage facilities in Bar and the state’s plans to establish strategic oil reserves.

Representatives of TurkCham introduced Šahmanović to their business activities and investment interests, stressing that there is significant room for strengthening economic cooperation between Montenegrin and Turkish entrepreneurs.

Kalkavan welcomed TurkCham initiative to identify new investment opportunities through dialogue with the minister. As an example of successful cooperation, he particularly highlighted the entry of the Turkish airline “Pegasus” into the Montenegrin market, which resulted in a fourfold increase in the number of tourists from Turkey. He noted that this initiative was realized during the previous government’s term, with support from the then Ministry of Capital Investments and then-State Secretary, now Minister Šahmanović.

Genç stated that Turkish entrepreneurs have a great interest in investing in Montenegro.

“This meeting was an opportunity to exchange views and ideas, and we are especially pleased that Minister Šahmanović recognizes the importance of cooperation and dialogue between government representatives and the business sector,” he said.
