Martinović-Kalkavan: Potential for strengthening tourism and environmental ties with Türkiye
The Minister of Tourism, Ecology, Sustainable Development and Development of the North, Vladimir Martinović, met with the Ambassador of Turkiye to Montenegro, Baris Kalkavan, and his associates.
They talked about cooperation between Montenegro and Türkiye in the fields of tourism and ecology, attracting Turkish investors and creating conditions for the greatest possible arrival of tourists. Ambassador Kalkavan said that they are particularly interested in cooperation in the area of waste management and recalled the successful cooperation between the Agency for International Cooperation and Organizations (TIKA) and the Environmental Protection Agency. As stated in the announcement, Martinović said that the Ministry of Tourism, Ecology, Sustainable Development of the North is open to cooperation in the field of ecology and environmental protection, especially taking into account that Montenegro is facing the closure of Chapter 27 and achieving better results for the next European Commission Report (EC). Speaking about tourism, the interlocutors assessed that there is room for improvement, because the two countries can offer tourists interesting content all year round. “The perspective of the cooperation between Montenegro and Turkey in the field of tourism is good, bearing in mind the fact that both countries are distinguished by the natural beauty and diversity of the Balkans and the Mediterranean, and the mutual commitment of the institutions to deepen the economic connection and improve bilateral cooperation in all areas,” said Martinović. The previous positive experiences regarding the investment of Turkish investors in Montenegro, which lead to the strengthening of the economy and employment, were highlighted. There was also talk about the development of the north, which has the same potential as the south of Montenegro, and where the interlocutors assessed that there is room for cooperation. Kalkavan informed Minister Martinović that, recognizing the importance and potential of the north, they directed Turkish investors to Žabljak, Kolašin, Bijelo Polje and Rožaje. “I repeat that all investors, who want to operate in accordance with the law, are more than welcome to our country, especially when their investments refer to parts of Montenegro where investment is necessary,” said Martinović. The minister also pointed out that he is familiar with and follows the work of Turkcham in Montenegro. At the conclusion of the meeting, the ambassador thanked for the reception, with the expectation that the meeting is just a prelude to successful cooperation.
