Under the sponsorship of TurkCham Montenegro, an event was held in Podgorica on the occasion of Turkish holiday of National Sovereignty and Children’s Day
On the occasion of April 23, the Turkish holiday of National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, an event was held in Podgorica tonight, which brought together numerous students from elementary schools in the capital of Montenegro.
In the “Budo Tomović” Cultural and Information Center, over a hundred students from numerous primary schools in Podgorica and children from International Arts Academy performed various recitations and musical performances, in the presence of parents and representatives of Turkish institutions in Montenegro.
The Ambassador of Türkiye in Montenegro, H.E. Barış Kalkavan, said that April 23 is a day full of symbolism and meaning.
“The celebration of April 23, which is held around the world through our representatives, is an opportunity for young generations to build friendships and for different cultures to socialize and unite. Every positive step we take for the education of our children will be positive for the country we live in, as well as for Türkiye,” said Kalkavan.
The attaché for education at the Embassy of Türkiye in Podgorica also greeted those present on the event.
One of the most important national holidays in Türkiye is traditionally celebrated with numerous events in which children from the country and abroad participate.
The national holiday National Sovereignty and Children’s Day is celebrated on April 23, the day when the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Türkiye was opened in 1920.
On this day in 1924, it was decided that the founding day of the Great National Assembly would be celebrated as a national holiday. Five years later, on April 23, 1929, that holiday was given to children.
Since 1929, it has been celebrated in Türkiye as National Sovereignty Day and at the same time as Children’s Day.
